If you're visiting the Florida Keys, the most important thing to know is this:
An out-of-state medical marijuana card does not allow you to purchase medical marijuana from a Florida dispensary.
Florida does not offer medical-marijuana reciprocity for visiting patients from other states. To purchase medical marijuana from a licensed Florida Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC), you must be properly registered in Florida's Medical Marijuana Use Registry.
Some part-year Florida residents may qualify under Florida's separate seasonal-resident rules, but a normal short-term vacation does not qualify.
You may still see stores in the Keys selling CBD, hemp-derived THC, or other hemp products without a medical card. Those products are regulated under a separate legal framework and are not part of Florida's MMTC medical-marijuana system.
Can I Use My Out-of-State Medical Marijuana Card?
No. Florida does not recognize out-of-state medical marijuana cards for purchases at licensed Florida Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers (MMTCs).
Even if you are a registered medical marijuana patient in another state, that card does not transfer into Florida's program and does not authorize you to purchase medical marijuana from a Florida MMTC.
To purchase medical marijuana through Florida's MMTC system, you must qualify under Florida law, receive certification from a qualified Florida physician, and be properly registered in Florida's Medical Marijuana Use Registry.
For most visitors, that means an out-of-state medical card does not provide access to Florida dispensaries during a normal vacation.

What If I Stay in Florida Part of the Year?
Some people who live in Florida only part of the year may qualify as seasonal residents under Florida's medical marijuana program.
That is different from simply visiting the Keys on vacation. Florida's seasonal-resident pathway has specific residency and documentation requirements, so a short-term stay by itself does not qualify someone for the program.

Can I Bring Weed With Me to Florida?
Do not assume that marijuana legally purchased or possessed in another state can legally be brought into Florida.
Crossing a state line with marijuana can raise federal as well as state legal issues, even when the marijuana was obtained lawfully under another state's medical or adult-use program.
For that reason, visitors should not rely on their home state's marijuana laws when traveling to Florida. The fact that possession is legal where your trip begins does not automatically make interstate transport legal.

Hemp-Derived THC, CBD, and Similar Products
Visitors to the Florida Keys may see stores selling CBD, hemp-derived THC, and other hemp products without requiring a Florida medical marijuana card.
These products are not part of Florida's Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC) system. They are regulated separately under Florida's hemp laws and should not be confused with medical marijuana sold by licensed MMTC dispensaries.
That distinction matters because a storefront may use words such as THC, cannabis, or even weed in its marketing without being a licensed Florida medical marijuana dispensary.
A "no medical card needed" sign does not mean Florida has recreational marijuana dispensaries. It generally means the store is selling products under a different legal framework.
Because hemp laws and product requirements can change, visitors should verify current Florida rules and the nature of the products being sold before making assumptions about what is legal.
Where Are Licensed Dispensaries in the Keys?
Licensed Florida Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC) storefronts are currently available in parts of the Florida Keys, but not every community has one.

- Tavernier has a licensed MMTC storefront.
